Subject BIG BREAKFAST HELPS BEAT THE JANUARY BLUES
ByTina

A wonderful time was had by all at this year's Chicken House Big Breakfast.
Held at the suitably quirky Soho Hotel in London, the Big Breakfast was a great opportunity to showcase the exciting titles we have coming in 2013 and to give our newest and biggest authors a chance to showcase their talents.
Attended by children's booksellers, buyers, press and members of the Chicken House tems in Germany and the Netherlands, the Big Breakfast got the year off to a great start.
Armadillo Magazine reviewer Anne Harding shares her highlights from the event in this lovely blog piece.

Subject New Year? New Books!
ByTina

It’s January and, while the skies are still grey and the days still short, it’s the perfect time to curl up with our first new releases of the year.
Fans of Cornelia Funke are in for a treat with the release of FEARLESS, the second book in the stunning new Mirrorworld series, which commenced with RECKLESS. Join Jacob Reckless for another breathtaking adventure in Funke’s brilliantly realised Fairytale-inspired world.
Heather Dyer’s THE FISH IN ROOM 11, THE GIRL WITH THE BROKEN WING, and THE BOY IN THE BISCUIT TIN have been given a fresh new cover look, but still possess all their original charm and warmth. Younger readers will devour this irresistible trio of books.
Talking of trios, the fast-paced dystopian MAZE RUNNER trilogy is joined this January by a prequel. Go right back to the very beginning and get your hands on a copy of James Dashner's THE KILL ORDER.
We’ve an exceptional year of books to come, so don’t forget to browse our latest releases and upcoming titles.

Subject THE WOLF PRINCESS SHORTLISTED FOR THE SPECSAVERS NATIONAL BOOK AWARDS
ByTina

The Wolf Princess by Cathryn Constable has been shortlisted for the Specsavers National Book Awards 2012
Shortlisted for the National Book Tokens Children’s Book of the Year, THE WOLF PRINCESS – a magical tale of snow, diamonds and white wolves, set in the Russian wilderness – takes its place alongside award-winning authors Jonny Duddle and David Walliams.
Shortlisted authors will attend a star-studded ceremony at London’s glamorous Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Tuesday 4 December, where the winners will be presented their awards by TV host Lorraine Kelly. Highlights from the awards will be shown on Lorraine’s ITV1 show the following morning.
THE WOLF PRINCESS is the only debut novel from a previously unknown author to make this year’s shortlist. Though it is rare for a children’s debut novel to attract such early critical acclaim, Chicken House Publisher and MD Barry Cunningham (who famously discovered JK Rowling) felt immediately that THE WOLF PRINCESS had that ‘something special’:
‘Once or twice in a lifetime of publishing it happens. The outside world melts away and you’re holding a book that warms hearts, excites the imagination and captures the essence of what makes a truly great children’s story. The Wolf Princess is one such book.’
Cathryn Constable began her writing career as a journalist, after graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in Theology. After rediscovering a love for children’s literature, Cathryn began writing fiction for children. She is currently working on her second novel for Chicken House. Cathryn lives in North London with her husband and three children.
